Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 expiry
The Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 derivatives’ expiration days will change from Thursday to Wednesday as of January 1, 2025. This seeks to improve trading efficiency and is consistent with worldwide market standards.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) announced in a circular on Thursday that the expiration dates of all segments will be changed starting on January 1, 2025.

According to the BSE, the Sensex weekly contracts will now expire on Tuesdays rather than Fridays.
The exchange also stated that the last Tuesday of each month will mark the expiration of the monthly contracts for both indices.
At the moment, the Sensex monthly contract expires on the last Friday of each month, but the Bankex and Sensex 50 monthly contracts expire on the final Monday and Thursday, respectively.

The changes come after the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) decided earlier this month to stop offering weekly index futures contracts on the Bankex and Sensex 50. This action was taken in order to adhere to new rules that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had introduced. Beginning on November 20, SEBI had directed stock exchanges to restrict weekly option contracts to one per exchange. This is a component of a larger series of actions meant to curb excessive activity in the F&O (Futures & Options) market.
