NATIONAL PANCHAYAT AWARDS 2024
The National Panchayat Awards 2024 honors exemplary Panchayats throughout India for their achievements in the Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) during the evaluation period of 2022-2023. In 2022, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj restructured these awards to correspond with nine thematic areas of LSDGs, drawing inspiration from the 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative seeks to promote a spirit of competition among Panchayats, evaluate their advancements, and propel the realization of LSDGs by the year 2030.

- Multi-Level Competition:
- NATIONAL PANCHAYAT AWARDS 2024 are structured in a pyramid format across Block, District, State/UT, and National levels.

- Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar:
- Top 3 Gram Panchayats (GPs) in each of the nine themes.
- Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar:
- Awarded to the top 3 GPs, Block Panchayats (BPs), and District Panchayats (DPs) with the highest average scores across all themes.
- Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar:
- For 3 GPs demonstrating exceptional adoption and usage of renewable energy.
- Carbon Neutral Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar:
- For 3 GPs achieving significant milestones toward net-zero carbon emissions.
- Panchayat Kshamta Nirmaan Sarvottam Sansthan Puraskar:
- Recognizes 3 institutions supporting GPs in attaining LSDGs.
- Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (Special):
- Awarded to one GP consistently qualifying for National Panchayat Awards over multiple years.
- Best Participant (State/District):

Objective
The awards are designed to motivate Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to achieve excellence in sustainable governance, improve local capabilities, and ensure significant advancements towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the year 2030. This initiative not only cultivates a competitive spirit but also highlights exemplary Panchayats as models for grassroots development.
The National Panchayat Awards 2024 ceremony recognized outstanding Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) for their remarkable contributions to grassroots development. The awards for the evaluation year 2022–2023 were presented by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, on December 11, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

- Awardees: This year, 45 winners across various categories will be recognized for their achievements in poverty alleviation, health, child welfare, infrastructure, water management, sanitation, social justice, women empowerment, and climate sustainability.
- Women-Led Panchayats: An impressive 42% of the awardee Panchayats are led by women, showcasing their pivotal role in grassroots leadership and development.
- Participation: A total of 1.94 lakh Gram Panchayats competed, reflecting the widespread enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in rural governance.

Selection Process
The winners were chosen through a rigorous multi-level appraisal process, beginning at the block level and culminating at the national level. Committees evaluated Panchayats’ performances based on the nine thematic areas aligned with the Localization of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs).
